OUR SERVICES
Thermostatic Mixing Valves
A Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TMV) combines hot and cold water to maintain a consistent temperature (not exceeding 45°) for a safe outlet, which helps prevent accidental injuries and burns. Additionally, TMVs are vital in delivering hot water at safe temperatures to combat the harmful growth of Legionella bacteria.
The Australian Standards (AS4032.3) mandate that TMVs be tested at least every 12 months. Furthermore, the element and O-rings must be replaced every 5 years.
Malfunctioning TMVs have led to fatalities and serious scalding, often due to improper installation, commissioning, operation, service, and maintenance. The Australian Standards AS3498 and AS4032 outline the regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
By utilising TMV Testing, you not only fulfill your compliance obligations but also ensure the safety of your facility!
Backflow Prevention
In Australia, regulations for testable backflow prevention devices are primarily guided by the Australian Standards and local plumbing codes. Key points include:
-
Australian Standard AS 3500: This standard provides guidelines for plumbing and drainage, including backflow prevention. It outlines the types of devices acceptable for different risk levels.
-
Local Government Regulations: Each state and territory has its own plumbing and health regulations that may specify the installation, maintenance, and testing of backflow prevention devices. It's essential to consult local authorities for specific requirements.
-
Testing Frequency: Testable backflow devices, such as RPZ and DCVA, must be tested regularly, typically at least once a year, by a certified backflow prevention tester.
-
Installation: Devices must be installed by licensed plumbers in accordance with the relevant codes and standards to ensure they are effective.
-
Record Keeping: Test results must be documented, and records should be kept to demonstrate compliance with testing requirements.
-
Risk Assessment: The level of backflow prevention required depends on the potential risk of contamination associated with the specific application.
It's important to stay updated on any changes to regulations and consult with local plumbing authorities or a qualified professional for guidance.
